Emergence publishes an annual print edition featuring a collection of essays, interviews, poems, adapted multimedia stories, and photo essays. Tactile and intimate, Volumes 1–3 of our print edition span several hundred color-filled pages and a variety of textures of paper, inviting you to slow down and enjoy these stories over time. And for the first time we’re offering a companion soundtrack with our latest volume, available as a limited-edition vinyl LP. We also print smaller collections of work, including practice booklets and our inaugural fiction collection, Short Stories of Apocalypse.
Both Volume 3 and the companion limited-edition 180-gram vinyl LP soundtrack are now available to order.
Emergence Magazine Vol. 3
What does living in an unfolding apocalyptic reality look like? Volume 3: Living with the Unknown explores this question through four themes—Initiation, Ashes, Roots, and Futures—moving from the raw unknowing of transformation to a place of rooted possibility. The stories in this edition offer what we hope can be a light in the darkness as we transition into the next chapter of our collective future and embrace the reality of living with the unknown.
Living with the Unknown: Soundtrack 180g Vinyl LP
Oscar-nominated composer Volker Bertelmann (also known as Hauschka) created a companion soundtrack for the third volume of our print edition, Living with the Unknown, a collection of stories that asks: What does living in an unfolding apocalyptic reality look like? His visceral score offers a potent space to encounter the questions and ideas posed in this volume. Each track corresponds to one of the themes: Initiation, Ashes, Roots, and Futures.
The limited-edition 180-gram vinyl features artwork by internationally acclaimed artist Ann Hamilton and a 24-page concordance produced in collaboration with her studio.
Emergence Magazine Vol. 2
Volume 2 of our print edition speaks to the multiple crises and opportunities unfolding around us: plague, extinctions, and loneliness grip us ever tighter even as they affirm our connection with the living world. Across 400 pages—and through essays, photography, adapted multimedia, poems, and original artwork—this collection considers the stories that we want to seed in these mythological times.
Emergence Magazine Vol. 1
Our inaugural print edition is a collection of essays, poems, adapted multimedia stories, and photo essays from our first four issues. Tactile and intimate, this edition spans 296 color-filled pages and six different textures of paper—inviting you to slow down and enjoy these stories over time.
Practice Booklet Vol. 1 & 2
Emergence practices offer meaningful ways of connecting to the living world, inviting you to bring an element of one of our stories into your life. You can take our practice exercises with you wherever you go with our simple and elegant practice booklets.
Short Stories of Apocalypse
Our inaugural print fiction collection explores the theme of apocalypse from past, present, and future perspectives, with short stories from Lydia Millet, Sjón, Ben Okri, and Paul Kingsnorth, and a forward by Alexis Wright. Through the grief of extinction, the gift of second sight, the final notes of human history, and the fatal temptation of technology, these four writers usher us into the mystery of what lies beyond endings.
