Blessings

David Whyte’s “Blessing” poems are interpreted through a visual journey across the Irish landscape in this short film by Emmy-winning filmmaker Andrew Hinton. Musician and composer Owen Ó Súilleabháin, who has collaborated with David Whyte for over a decade, offers a reflection on the music that inspired the creation of this short film.

Poet

David Whyte is the author of nine books of poetry and four books of prose. His poetry collections include The Bell and the Blackbird, The Sea in You: Twenty Poems of Requited and Unrequited Love, and Pilgrim. David is the founder of the Many Rivers Company and of Invitas: The Institute for Conversational Leadership. He is an Associate Fellow at the Saïd Business School at the University of Oxford.

Director

Andrew Hinton is a filmmaker based in Portland, Oregon. His films include Amar (all great achievements require time), winner of the 2012 Vimeo Documentary Award, and Tashi and the Monk, winner of twenty-seven awards, including an Emmy for Outstanding Short Documentary.

Musician & Composer

Owen Ó Súilleabháin is a musician and composer from one of Ireland’s most esteemed musical families. His mother, Noírín Ni Riain, is a leading sacred singer and theologian, and his father, Mícheál, is a pioneering national composer and founder of the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance. Drawing from this musical inheritance, Owen has released eight albums of both ancient and contemporary songs and performed around the world.
