Paolo Pellegrin is an award-winning Italian photojournalist who has documented many of this generation’s major disasters and conflicts, from revolutions to wars to tsunamis. His work has been published in TIME Magazine, The New York Times, Newsweek, and the New York Times Magazine, for which he has photographed more than ten cover stories. He has been a member of Magnum Photos since 2005 and has won ten World Press awards and several Photographer of the Year awards.
Najin and Fatu—mother and daughter, the last surviving northern white rhinos on Earth—roam the wilds of Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Kenya. Spending time with these majestic beings, photographer Paolo Pellegrin earned the trust to witness them up close: the textures of their skin, the pace of their movements, the closeness of the bond they share. Through this series, we’re brought face to face with the impending absence of these creatures, their bodies silhouetted in the day’s fading light.
